The Thriving Families, Thriving Girls Program provides a critical lifeline to vulnerable girls in Ethiopia, ensuring they can remain with their families and complete their education. Poverty forces many families into impossible situations, where girls are often pulled out of school to work, sent to orphanages, or left to fend for themselves. Our program intervenes, providing comprehensive support that empowers girls and strengthens families.
We understand the challenges faced by those living on just $1.88 a day. That’s why we offer a holistic approach that addresses the root causes of educational disruption:
- Educational Access: We cover school fees and provide essential supplies, including uniforms and durable shoes, so girls can focus on learning, not survival.
- Family Preservation: We offer Conditional Cash Transfers (CCTs) to families, ensuring they can meet their basic needs while their daughters attend school. This prevents the need for harmful coping mechanisms like child labor or separation.
- Dedicated Mentorship: Our mentors provide crucial academic and emotional support, working closely with girls, families, and caregivers to address challenges and create a stable and nurturing environment.
Through this multi-faceted approach, we ensure girls can stay in school throughout their middle and high school years, building a strong foundation for a brighter future. By investing in their education and well-being, we help them unlock their full potential and break the cycle of poverty for themselves, their families, and their communities.
